Recently, during a GP upgrade to GP2015, we faced an issue with Management Reporter. The issue was, when trying to open Management Reporter Configuration Console, it hangs for couple of minutes and later, it will give an error message as 'Unable to connect to Management Reporter Application Service http://servername:4712'
Solution
- Open SQL Server Configuration Manager (All Programs >> SQL Server Configuration Manager)
- Enable Named Pipes under 'Client Protocols'
- Also, de-select 'Automatically detect settings' in Internet Explorer under Internet Options >> Connections tab >> LAN settings
